For a variety of reasons, we become addicted to people, places and things, and when we do, our quality of life - as
well as that of those around us - declines.
When it gets to this point, we need help to restore a manageable and enjoyable quality of life.
I offer a unique approach to addictions counseling. I combine my expertise and training as a Registered Addictions
Specialist with a Doctorate in Naturopathy, Masters in Psychology and accreditations as a Nutritionist, Herbalist, and
Hypnotherapist to develop a truly
comprehensive and individualized treatment plan. By using this multi-disciplinary approach, I've found that people tend
to feel better faster.
Hard Addictions Versus Soft Addictions
Do you have a problem with drugs or alcohol? I can help you decide what the next right step is. Is treatment your only
option? Should you go to 12 step meetings? Will outpatient work for you? These are questions that are best answered
by a qualified and caring addictions specialist such as myself. Together we can help you make a decision as to what
options work best for your individual situation.
Perhaps your addiction is around something other than drugs or alcohol.
Are you always late? Is your house a mess? Do you shop too much? You could have a soft addiction. These "little habits'
can actually prevent us from living better lives. Soft addictions can actually be just as hard to stop as hard
addictions like drug use or gambling. For both soft and hard addictions. there are often co-occurring disorders, such
as depression and anxiety.
It can be a fine line between what is a soft and hard addiction. For example, Video Game Addiction Disorder is being
considered as a diagnosable disorder for the next edition of the American Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental
Disorders (DSM IV). As a team, you and I can discuss what is happening to you and how we can best address the problem.
