Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy

Individual Counseling Psychotherapy I’ll start with some words of encouragement: If you’re reading this page, you’re probably hurting somehow - depression, anxiety, relationship issues - something’s got you down. You’d like some caring, competent support to help you get through this time and reclaim your sense of well-being and vitality.

You’ve come to the right place. Not only would I love to help, but I have the skill and the ability to do just that. You’ll experience a healing relationship with me, your therapist, where those hurt parts of yourself can heal, and in a way that you can feel well and whole again.

How I’ll Help

I’ll gently, kindly, patiently, engage with you and empower your healing. Here’s a summary of how. First, I’ll gently follow your lead, listening and understanding as you slowly take me into your world of thoughts, ideas, needs and feelings. I’ll really be there with you as you feel and experience, meeting your feelings and experiences with a caring response. Throughout our time working together, I’ll offer an ongoing sense of my caring presence in the relationship. All the while, in a manner that’ll be transparent to you, I’ll make use of a collection of powerful theoretical approaches to therapy: By interweaving all these together, what you’ll experience is a caring therapist filled with many tools and skills to help you, the client, heal.

What it’s Like - in 3 Parts

In this section, I’m going to borrow from my webpage "What’s it Like in Session with Randi?". The words below give you sense of what it feels like in individual counseling, so you’ll know just what to expect.

Part 1: Attunement

First, my clients tell me, "I feel you care."

When my clients are sad, they find in me a compassionate listener. When they’re scared or anxious, they find me offering a feeling of security. When they’re angry, I take my clients seriously and I’m impacted by that anger. Whatever you’re feeling, you’ll find me tuned in and right there with you. You won’t go through it alone. You’ll be heard and understood.

"I’ve got an advocate, someone who cares for me and is going to go through this with me."

Part 2: Involvement

My clients also tell me, "You’re involved with me." I make it a priority to listen and understand, to be sure clients feel heard and valued: And I also make sure I go beyond listening - and get involved.

I’ve got many years of clinical training and experience. And I’ll add that training and experience to enhance your awareness of yourself: together, we’ll find the words to help you gain a deep understanding of what ails you. Together, we’ll create a profound understanding of what’s been going on, an understanding that will allow us to accelerate your healing.

"Randi works with me," my clients tell me. "Sure, she listens, but she doesn’t just sit back listening. She gets in the trenches with me. While I can feel her compassion, I deeply appreciate her insights. She really gets me and helps me better understand myself."

Part 3: Resolution

And then, together, we’ll do the healing work. You’ve come to me because your hurting and, ultimately, you need someone who can help you heal. I’ll support and empower you to make the changes that lead to wholeness and wellness: encouraging relational transitions; making changes out there in the way you live your everyday life; doing the emotional healing work in session with me. Whatever the work - mind, heart, family, or soul - we’ll do it together. We’ll get you to the other side of this healing journey. Sometimes I’ll carry you - in the end, you’ll learn to carry yourself.

Help for What Hurts

I’m including a list as a sampling of issues that might be hurting you. It’s not a complete list, but I hope it gives you a feel for the range of issues I can support you through. I’d invite you to give me a call and tell me what’s hurting you. I’ll help. Okay, here’s that list of some of the things I’ll help you through:

As a therapist, I’ll gently, kindly, patiently, engage with you. I’ll engage you in three ways.
  1. Inquiry. With the use of inquiry, I practice the art of gently following you, as you take me into your world of thoughts, ideas, needs and feelings - at your own pace.
  2. Attunement. Through attunement, I’ll engage in empathy, really being there with you as you feel and experience. I’ll also go beyond empathy, meeting your feelings and experiences with a caring, reciprocal response. For example, I might meet your sadness with my expression of compassion; or respond to your anxiety with a sense of security-making.
  3. Involvement. Add involvement, and I’ll offer an ongoing sense of presence in the relationship in the form of reliability, dependability, and consistency.
Together, through inquiry, attunement, and involvement, you’ll find I’ll support and guide you in your healing journey.
