Emotional Eating Screening Test


Are you prone to emotional eating? Instead of eating when you’re hungry, do you turn to food (usually comfort and junk foods) when you’re feeling things like boredom, anger, anxiety, or stress?

Though filling up on sugary and fatty foods may make you feel better in the short term, it can have long-term consequences, leading to weight gain and health problems. If this is the case, you need to identify which emotions cause you to head to the fridge and then learn to substitute healthier behaviors when these emotions strike.

1) When you're bored or restless, you usually:
Head to the fridge; it’s snack time!
Sometimes have a snack but usually find another way
to distract myself.
Call a friend, or do some other activity to pass the
time.
Take a walk, go to the gym or do some other type of
exercise.

2) What has the biggest influence on what you eat?
Everything, such as the foods that are available,
my mood, and my hunger.
How I feel, such as whether I'm bored, stressed,
anxious, etc.
How hungry or full I feel at the time.
Where and what my friends and family want to eat.

I feel bad, which makes me want to eat even more

5) How do you feel when it comes to controlling how much you eat?
Completely out of control all of the time.

With an unlimited supply of my favorite food.

It seems like I'm always thinking about food.
A lot; it’s on my mind most of the time.
It varies, depending on the time of day.

9) How important is food to you?
My favorite foods are the most important thing
in my life.
Other things are just as important.
I can take it or leave it; it's not that important.
I wish it were less important...

10) How would you describe your history of dieting?
I've tried lots of diets to control your weight, but
I can’t stick to any of them.
My weight fluctuates, but I can usually control it with
healthy eating.
I've always had supervision over a short period of time.
I’ve never really dieted, since my weight is in a healthy
range.

11) What do you think constitutes unhealthy eating?
Eating too much sugar and fat.
Eating too much fast food.
Eating too meat too often.
All of the above.

12) When do you typically overindulge in unhealthy foods?
Any time and all the time.
Usually late at night or when I've had a stressful
day.
I rarely overindulge, and when I do, it can be
at any time.
Only on special occasions and after the odd bad
day.
