Relationship coaching is a professional client-focused service where an individuals or couples are assumed to be healthy, powerful, and able to achieve relationship goals with effective support, information and guidance. It helps individuals or partners discover how to gain the most from their relationships. Relationship coaching is effective resource for improving relationship in a positive, solution focused way.

Relationship coaching is an approach to bringing about change. It helps people understand their relationship difficulties and shortcomings in terms of the skills and attitudes that are needed but lacking, and then learn and adapt those skills. It works best when both parties are committed and enthusiastic about their relationship. It can, however, also be used by just one party in the relationship in cases where that person seeks to improve their contribution to a relationship.

One key factor about relationship coaching is that the relationship need not be 'in trouble' or 'dysfunctional' in order for relationship coaching to be beneficial. Relationship coaching can be of enormous benefit where a relationship may be going through a 'difficult phase' but equally, it can benefit perfectly sound relationships where the partners simply seek to make their relationship or their lives better.
